NORFOLK, Va., March 22, 2023—Howard University graduate student Dylan Beard was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola and Morgan State freshman Mackenzie Harris was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today. Howard University sophomore Eric Brown, Jr. was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while Morgan State junior Tia Jackson earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Beard (Gr., Baltimore, Md.) leads the NCAA in the men’s 110-meter hurdles after winning the event this past weekend at the Charlotte 49er Classic, running a 13.68.
Harris (Fr., Decatur, Ala.) came in second in the women’s heptathlon at the Webb Davidson Meet, tallying 4,153 points – which are the 10th-most in the nation so far this outdoor season. She recorded top-five finishes in six of the seven events, including runner-up in the 200 meters and 100-meter hurdles.
Brown (So., Raleigh, N.C.) leaped 14.24 meters in the men’s triple jump at the Charlotte 49er Classic, which currently ranks as the 48th-best mark in the nation.
Jackson (Jr., Bristol, United Kingdom) came in second in the women’s long jump at the Webb Davidson Meet, leaping 5.91 meters – which is currently the 35th-best mark in the nation.
Other Top Performers
Ja’Tae Joyner (Howard) was third in the triple jump at the Charlotte 49er Classic at 11.67 meters.
Darci Khan (Howard) was second in the 100-meter hurdles at the Charlotte 49er Classic, running a MEAC-best 13.53 (11th in the nation).
James Perkins (Maryland Eastern Shore) won both the discus throw (44.30 meters) and shot put (15.16 meters) at the Virginia Beach Spring Invite.
Cameran Gist (South Carolina State) won the long jump at the Buccaneer Invitational with a mark of 5.54 meters, while also finishing third in the 100 meters and 4×400-meter relay.
Dexter Ratliff (South Carolina State) won the discus throw (47.33 meters) and was second in the hammer throw (44.66 meters) at the Buccaneer Invitational.
